Carbon Fiber PLA Filament: FAQs

1. Is this filament abrasive?

Yes. The carbon fibers are very abrasive. Consequently, this filament will destroy a standard brass nozzle very quickly. You must use a hardened steel, ruby-tipped, or other abrasive-resistant nozzle.

2. How is this different from your PLA/CNT Conductive filament?

This filament is for **structural strength**. The carbon fibers add immense stiffness and rigidity. Our PLA/CNT filament, on the other hand, is for **electrical conductivity**. You choose this Carbon Fiber PLA for strong, rigid parts like drone frames or brackets. You choose PLA/CNT for ESD-safe jigs and enclosures.

3. Can I anneal this filament for higher heat resistance?

Yes. Unlike our Everyday PLA, this carbon fiber PLA filament is designed to be heat-treated (annealed). After annealing, the part can achieve a heat resistance of over 90°C, making it suitable for more demanding applications.

4. Why are my Carbon Fiber PLA prints stringy?

Stringing with this material is usually a moisture or retraction issue. First, the additives can absorb moisture. Try drying your spool at 50°C for 4-6 hours. Second, carbon fiber can increase oozing. You may need to increase your retraction speed or distance slightly to get a cleaner print.
