ABC3D’s Nylon 12/CNT Conductive Filament is a powerful, engineering-grade material known for its great balance of properties. Specifically, Nylon 12 (PA12) is a popular choice in many industries for a few key reasons. It has excellent chemical resistance and absorbs very little moisture, which makes it very easy to work with.

Because of this, it produces parts with minimal shrinkage. As a result, your printed parts have amazing dimensional stability, making our CNT PA12 the perfect choice for creating tools, fixtures, and jigs.

In addition to these benefits, our conductive filament combines the versatility of PA12 with special electrical properties. We’ve embedded a network of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) that allows the material to safely and evenly dissipate static electricity, all without sacrificing the print’s strength or quality. For example, research like Arjmand et al., 2011 shows how CNTs help maintain both conductivity and performance in polymers.

To meet your specific technical needs, the Electrically Conductive PA12 Filament is available in three grades:

  • Antistatic – with a volume resistivity of 10E8 to 10E10 ohm cm.
  • Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) – featuring a volume resistivity of 10E4 to 10E6 ohm cm.
  • EMI/RFI Shielding – possessing a volume resistivity of 10E0 to 10E2 ohm cm.

Therefore, this filament is ideal for making circuits, sensors, and electromagnetic shielding, opening up endless possibilities. Whether you’re an electronics enthusiast, a professional engineer, or a creative maker, this filament is an excellent choice. Furthermore, it’s compatible with most standard 3D printers, so it can be used by a wide audience. Printed objects have a clean matte finish with a light texture, improving both their looks and performance. For even better precision and smoother surfaces, you can also use post-processing techniques like sanding or polishing, which will not affect the electrical conductivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I absolutely need an enclosure to print this?

It is highly recommended. While Nylon 12 warps less than other nylons, a heated chamber or enclosure is still the best way to ensure maximum layer adhesion and dimensional stability, especially for large parts.

2. Do I really need to dry this filament?

Yes. Even though PA12 is known for its low moisture absorption (which is a huge benefit over PA6), it is still a nylon and will absorb moisture from the air. Consequently, drying it at 90°C for at least 4 hours before printing is critical to prevent stringing and ensure the best mechanical properties.

3. How does this compare to your ABS/CNT filament?

Nylon 12/CNT offers superior chemical resistance and a higher elongation at break, meaning it’s “tougher” and less brittle than ABS. In addition, it has significantly lower moisture absorption than other nylons. Choose ABS/CNT for high thermal stability and rigidity. Choose Nylon 12/CNT for durable, chemically-resistant parts that require toughness and flexibility under stress.

4. Is this filament abrasive?

Yes. The Carbon Nanotube (CNT) content makes this filament abrasive. Therefore, it will wear down a standard brass nozzle quickly. We require the use of a hardened steel, ruby-tipped, or other abrasive-resistant nozzle to ensure a consistent extrusion width.
