ABC3D’s PPS/CNT Conductive Filament combines the unmatched chemical resistance of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) with the electrostatic control enabled by carbon nanotubes (CNTs). PPS is a high-performance thermoplastic known for its insolubility in all known solvents below 200°C, along with its inherent flame resistance and mechanical durability. By integrating a uniform CNT matrix, ABC3D ensures consistent ESD-safe behavior across all printed components—without sacrificing dimensional stability or strength.

Ideal for high-demand applications such as electronic housings, aerospace parts, and sensor enclosures, this filament empowers engineers to push the limits of design in corrosive or high-temperature environments. Research such as Arjmand et al., 2012 supports the effectiveness of CNT-reinforced PPS in achieving electrical conductivity while maintaining robust structural properties.

The Electrically Conductive PPS Filament is available in three grades:

  1. Antistatic – with a volume resistivity of 10E8 to 10E10 ohm cm.
  2. Electrostatic Discharge Grade (ESD) – featuring a volume resistivity of 10E4 to 10E6 ohm cm.
  3. Conductive  EMI/RFI Shielding – possessing a volume resistivity of 10E0 to 10E2 ohm cm.

Ideal for crafting circuits, sensors, and electromagnetic shielding, it offers boundless possibilities for various projects. Whether you’re an electronics enthusiast, professional engineer, or creative maker, these filaments are your ultimate choice. Compatible with most standard 3D printers, they cater to a wide audience of makers, engineers, and designers. Printed objects feature a distinct matte finish with a lightly textured surface, enhancing both aesthetic appeal and functionality. For increased precision and smoother surface finishes, apply post-processing techniques like sanding or polishing while preserving electrical conductivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is this filament abrasive?

Yes. The Carbon Nanotube (CNT) content, combined with the nature of PPS, makes this filament extremely abrasive. Consequently, a hardened steel, ruby-tipped, or all-metal nozzle is absolutely required to prevent rapid wear.

2. How difficult is this PPS/CNT Conductive Filament to print?

This is an advanced, expert-level material. Due to its extremely high nozzle (315°C+) and bed (120°C+) temperatures, it requires a high-performance printer with an all-metal hotend and a heated chamber. In addition, it must be dried at a high temperature (110°C) before use. This is not for beginners.

3. Why would I use this over ABS/CNT or Nylon 12/CNT?

You choose PPS/CNT when ABS and Nylon are not strong enough. Specifically, PPS offers superior chemical resistance (insoluble in all solvents below 200°C) and a much higher operating temperature. Therefore, it is used for end-use parts in harsh chemical, automotive, or aerospace environments where no other plastic will survive.

4. Do I absolutely need to dry this filament?

Yes. Even high-performance materials must be dry to print correctly. Drying at 110°C for at least 4 hours before printing is critical to ensure proper layer adhesion and prevent voids or foaming at the nozzle, which would destroy the part’s mechanical properties.
