When your projects demand more strength and heat resistance than standard PLA, turn to ABC3D’s high performance PLA filament. This engineering-grade material is designed for functional applications where durability and reliability are essential.
Strength and Durability Beyond Standard PLA
Our high performance PLA filament delivers a significant upgrade in mechanical properties. Specifically, it boasts much greater heat resistance (up to 85°C) and superior impact strength. This makes it stronger than many ABS materials, but with the printing ease of PLA. As a result, it’s the perfect choice for creating robust functional prototypes and end-use parts that need to last.
Food-Safe and Made from Quality Resin
We make our filament from pure NatureWorks Ingeo 3D850 resin, a material derived from renewable natural resources. Furthermore, this high-quality resin is FDA-approved for food and beverage contact applications, giving you peace of mind for your projects. Because it’s a bioplastic, it’s also biodegradable in industrial composting facilities.
Unlock Even More Strength with Annealing
You can improve the physical properties of your prints even further through heat treating (annealing). To do this, simply place your printed part in an oven and heat it to 80–130°C for up to 30 minutes. This process increases the material’s strength and temperature resistance, making our high performance PLA filament even more capable for demanding jobs.

High Performance PLA Filament: FAQs
1. Is this filament abrasive?
No. This is an “unfilled” PLA, meaning it does not contain any abrasive additives. Therefore, it is completely safe to print with a standard brass nozzle.
2. Is this PLA *really* food-safe?
The base NatureWorks 3D850 resin is FDA-approved for food contact. However, the 3D printing process itself can create micro-gaps (layer lines) where bacteria can grow. In addition, pigments or a dirty nozzle can introduce non-safe elements. For food-contact parts, we recommend sealing the print with a food-safe epoxy.
3. How is this different from your Everyday PLA filament?
This high performance PLA filament is all about strength and heat resistance. Our Everyday PLA is for general-purpose printing and impact resistance. However, this High Performance PLA can be annealed to withstand temperatures up to 85°C, making it a true engineering-grade material.
4. Do I have to anneal this filament?
No. The filament prints beautifully and is very strong right off the printer. However, if you need the part to withstand high temperatures (above 55°C), you must anneal it. Annealing is only required to unlock its maximum thermal and mechanical properties.
